CANDLE CARE

How do I properly care for my candle?

Trim the wick before every burn to at least 1/4 to 1/8 of an inch to ensure the flame is at the right height for the candle. This helps with the longevity of your candle. Untrimmed wicks will emit carbon (black sooting smoke) or cause over-burning and even discoloration. You can use wick trimmers, nail clippers, or even break off the burnt ends with your fingers once the candle has cooled.

Burn your candle for 3-4 hours at a time. This will help prevent your candle from tunneling (when too much wax is left on the outer rim.

Stop burning when 1/4 inch of the wax remains. This prevents the jar from overheating!

Never leave a candle unattended or within reach of a draft, pets, or small children. Place your candle on a flat, heat-resistant surface. Allow the jar and wax to cool completely before touching or moving.

If at any point the flame seems to high or the container gets too hot, simply extinguish the flame, let it cool down, trim the wick and restart.

What do I do if my wood wick won't stay lit?

If your wood wick isn’t staying lit, it could mean that your wick is either too long or short.

You may need to trim your wick for a proper burn. The easiest way to do this is by pinching off the top burnt bits with your fingers or using a small tool like a nail clipper or wick trimmer. We recommend trimming to 1/4 - 1/8 of an inch.

Why is my flame flickering or dwindling?

Some wood wicks can take a few goes to get started. A few relights may be required but once lit, it should burn well!

How can I prevent tunneling?

Your candle can tunnel if you extinguish the flame before its optimal burn time, leaving a ‘tunnel’ around the outside. Your candle won’t achieve its maximum burn potential and can become difficult to light later on. We never want that to happen, so please ensure you are burning your candle 3-4 hours at a time. This way it will set evenly with no tunelling.

Can I reuse my jar?

Yes! To properly clean your jars, first you’ll want to remove any additional wax on the inside of the jar.

1. Fill a pot with low simmering water and place the candle jar in it for a few minutes for the wax to soften.

2. Carefully remove the jar from the water and pour out the remaining wax (never down the drain). Thoroughly wash using warm water and soap.

3. Remove the remaining wick and the wick-holder. The boiling water will soften the adhesive enough to remove it. But if it gets stuck, slip a pen underneath to pop it out.

Do not microwave to melt the leftover wax as the wick holder that holds the wick in place is made out of metal.

If you want to remove any labelling, you can simply use a hairdryer.

ALL ABOUT OUR CANDLES

What are scent notes?

A “note” is a fancy word for descriptors of scents that you smell when you burn a candle. Candles have top, middle, and bottom (or base) notes.

Top notes are the first notes you sense when you smell a candle. These notes “introduce” the candle fragrance, and are typically fresh and light.

The middle notes are a bit more complex and full bodied than top notes. They are often the superstar of a scent, balancing and enhancing the top or bottom notes.

Bottom notes are the heavier and longer lasting notes. Think vanilla, woodsy, amber, or musk. These notes bring balance to a blend by weighing it down and rounding out the experience.

Why wood wicks?

1️⃣ 𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗕𝗨𝗥𝗡: Wooden wicks provide minimal carbon, soot, and debris. Just trim off any charred wood from previous burns, and your flame will be bright and clean! All of our wooden wicks are sourced from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified mills, and manufactured in the USA.

2️⃣ 𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚: Wooden wicks burn slower than regular cotton wicks. Prolong the lifespan of your candle? Yes, please!

3️⃣ 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗠𝗘𝗟𝗟: Research has shown that wooden wicks diffuse heat more rapidly into the wax. They can push up to 35% more fragrance into a room, in comparison to a cotton wick.

4️⃣ 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗜𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘! Wooden wicks make a soft crackling sound similar to that of a fireplace. This calming and appealing aspect gives you a modern feel.

5️⃣ 𝗧𝗢𝗫𝗜𝗡 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘: Because our wicks are 100% wood, they are not only eco-friendly and sustainable, but also toxin and phthalate free.

Why coconut apricot wax?

𝑩𝒖𝒓𝒏 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆: Coconut wax candles have one of the longest burn times and ensure an even burn. Slow and even burn time means smooth tops and a longer lasting candle.

𝑺𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒘: “Throw” is determined by how much a candle’s scent will fill a room. Coconut wax is known to supersede the ability of soy wax in both hot (lit) and cold (unlit) throws.

𝑪𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒏: Unfortunately, a lot of scented candles release soot and other harmful toxins in the air when lit. Coconut wax candles excel when compared to any other wax in terms of clean-burning. No carcinogens or toxins here!

𝑺𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚: 94% of soy is genetically modified and uses high amounts of pesticides. Coconuts do not require pesticides or any kind of fertilizers to grow. They are organic and harvested by hand, making them a non-GMO, eco-friendly option.

How are your candles scented?

This was a tough one. As much as we wanted to only use essential oils, we found out that some will evaporate, some will lose any therapeutic benefits, and some can actually become toxic.

We use high-quality fragrance oils that are infused with essential oils. These mixtures have been created specifically for candles and after reading through the safety data sheets, this is what we chose for our candles.

You can have peace of mind know that all of our candles are 100% phthlalate and paraben free, and contain no carcinogens or mutagens. They are also free of reproductive, organ, and acute toxins.
